Australia’s Regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), said that India’s Covaxin would be recognised for the purpose of establishing a traveller’s vaccination status.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, nudging WHO for its approval to Covaxin, said India is ready to produce over 5 billion Covid vaccine doses next year to help the world in the fight against the pandemic.

Narendra Modi had raised the delay in approval of Covaxin by the WHO at the just concluded G20 summit in Rome. India stated WHO recognition would help the Indian manufacturers to export vaccines across the world.

This comes amid millions of Indians complaining of travel struggles as the vaccine has not been recognised for international travel by several countries.

Australian officials had earlier said that foreign students, including Indians, will be able to start returning towards the end of this year and the beginning of 2022, ahead of the start of the first semester in February-March.
